hello Patriots welcome to this edition of Library Link in January we honor dr. Martin Luther King Jr in February we celebrate Black History Month let's look at the selection of titles available in the library that are able to help explore the contributions of men and women of color to the history of our nation out of the darkness by James Haskins uses the experiences of two individuals Ada bricktop is Smith and Joe Jones 2% the story of The Great Migration of Southern blacks Northern cities from the late 1800s to the years after World War 1 Black Diamond the story of the  baseball leagues by Patricia CE mckissick traces the history of baseball in the  Leagues and it's great Heroes including Monte Erwin Bach Leonard and cool pop the black soldier 1492 to the present by Catherine Clinton Chronicles the military accomplishments of African Americans who fought for the independence and preservation of the United States while struggling to be treated as equals and recognized for their Valor and achieved sweet words so brave the story of African American literature by Barbara Cakery is a survey of the history of African American literature from slave narratives to the present told in the voice of a grandfather speaking to his granddaughter Rock of Ages tribute to the black church by Tonya Bolden is an illustrated poem that personifies the black church in Chronicles its history from the days of slavery through the 20th century the history of African-American colleges and universities by Jennifer Peltz act provides a comprehensive look at historically black colleges and universities from their Origins to the present time including the individuals and groups involved in creating that history in Bad Boy A Memoir by Walter Dean Myers author Walter Dean Myers describes his childhood in Harlem in the 1940s and 1950s discussing his loving stepmother his problems in school his reasons for leaving home and his Beginnings as a writer Sounder by William H Armstrong tells the story of a young African-American boy who learns the pain of humiliation and anger when his father is giving an unjust jail sentence for stealing a ham from a white man learning to read and to discover that things do not die but become part of other things brings the youngster New Hope my man blue poems by Nikki Grimes is a collection of poems describe a young boy's life with his working mother as he establishes his own identity and develops a close relationship with his mother's friend blue Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred detailer and African American Family living in Mississippi during the Depression of the 1930s is faced with prejudice and discrimination which its children do not understand
