hello Liberty welcome to December's Library link the month of December is also known as the holiday season because the time between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day is when many significant holidays and festivals occur Hanukkah is a Jewish Festival observed for eight nights and days starting on the 25th day of kislev according to the Hebrew calendar which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar the festival is observed by lighting the candles of a candelabrum with nine branches commonly called a menorah Hanukkah has attained major cultural significance in North America and elsewhere especially among secular Jews do too often occurring around the same time as Christmas during the holiday season Advent is a season observed in most Christian denominations as a time of expected waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Christ at Christmas Christmas is an annual Festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ observe primarily on December 25th as a religious and cultural celebration Kwanzaa is an annual celebration of African-American culture from December 26th to January 1st culminating in a communal Feast called Cara usually on the sixth day Kwanzaa was created by activists Maulana karenga based on African Harvest Festival for editions from various parts of West and South East Africa Kwanzaa was first celebrated in 1960 World Arabic language day is observed annually on December 18th the event was established by the UN educational scientific and cultural organization UNESCO in 2010 seeking to celebrate multilingualism cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six of its official working languages throughout the organization December 18th was chosen as the dates for the Arabic language as it is the day in 1973 when the general assembly approved Arabic as an official un language in the Gregorian calendar New Year's Eve is the evening or the entire day of the last day of the year December 31st in many countries New Year's Eve is celebrated with dancing eating drinking and watching we're lighting fireworks in the Gregorian calendar New Year's day is the first day of the year January 1st New Year's Day is among the most celebrated public holidays in the world often observed with fireworks at the stroke of midnight following New Year's Eve as the new year starts in each time zone in pre-christian Rome under the Julian calendar the day was dedicated to Janice God of gateways and Beginnings for whom January is also named so you can see the December is a month full of holidays and festivals the ones mentioned in this video only begin to cover the topic as seen in this graphic there are numerous other holidays and festivals celebrated in the month of December you like to learn more stop by the library and check it out
